About Us 

Formed in 2023 as a 501(c)(3), the Texas Immigration Law Council (Council) is a nonpartisan statewide immigration legal resource and policy organization working to protect and promote the rights of immigrants and refugees of all nationalities in Texas. The organization was formed to develop and implement bold strategies to significantly help immigrants access justice and to move forward practical immigration solutions. 

Job Summary 

Consejo de Ley de Inmigración de Texas is hiring a Managing Attorney to help immigrants access justice by supporting immigration legal service providers throughout Texas by providing technical assistance, legal resources, and the facilitating the exchange of information, new strategies and advocacy efforts.   

Location & Travel Demands 

This remote position can be performed from anywhere in Texas. Travel within Texas is required. 

Primary Job Functions 

Legal Resources 

• Develop, curate, and disseminate resources for organizations and attorneys who provide immigration legal help to low-income immigrants and refugees in Texas. The resources and projects are varied and are aimed at increasing the reach and impact of immigration legal service providers. 
• Develop and a repository of practice advisories, legal briefs, manuals, and templates to facilitate the work of immigration legal service providers. 
• Develop pro se immigration legal resources for low-income individuals in Texas.

Advocacy 

• Assist organizations engaging in advocacy work to expand immigrants access to justice. 
• Collaborate with partners to increase legal resources and legal services available to immigrants in rural areas of Texas. 
• Develop strategies to pilot and evaluate interdisciplinary approaches to providing legal services to low-income immigrants in Texas. 

Facilitate Knowledge Exchange  

• Facilitate the sharing of legal resources, best practices, and trends with attorneys and legal practitioners working throughout Texas through working groups, convenings and trainings. 
• Manage and develop a monthly virtual CLE training session for immigration legal advocates. 

• Assist organizations in developing innovative strategies to incorporate technology, pro bono resources, or other strategies to expand their legal reach into underserved geographical areas of Texas. 
• Respond to technical assistance requests from attorneys who are assisting low-income immigrants and refugees in Texans.  

Qualifications 

• J.D. degree and active licensure as an attorney.  
• At least 5 years of experience working in immigration law, especially in humanitarian aspects of immigration law (e.g. asylum, removal defense, crimmigration, etc.) 
• 3 to 5 years of managing legal practice.  
• Deep commitment to bringing about change and trying new strategies and approaches so that access to justice is more equitable. 
• Expert knowledge of the immigration consequences of criminal offenses and behavior.  
• Experience in coalition building and a commitment to a collaborative, non-partisan leadership style.  
• Deep commitment to upholding a nonpartisan stance when executing all aspects of advocacy. This commitment is rooted in the belief of data driven decision-making and a respect for open dialogue and respectful collaboration with stakeholders who hold different opinions and viewpoints regarding immigration policy issues.  
• Technology proficiency. Familiarity and interest in leveraging emerging social media, digital tools, and platforms to move forward the organization’s goals.  
• Respect for diverse perspectives, and a recognition that inclusive collaboration leads to stronger outcomes. 
• Commitment to fostering a culture that values individuals and perspectives from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences.  

Location & Travel Demands 

This remote position can be performed from anywhere in Texas. Travel within Texas is required.  

Compensation & Benefits:  

The salary range is $100,000 to $125,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Generous benefits include employee and dependent health and dental insurance, 401(k) flexible work schedules, vacation and holidays, and professional development opportunities.
