Economic Justice Initiative – Managing Attorney

Texas Immigration Law Council – Economic Justice Initiative
Remote position based in Texas | $115,000–$130,000 annually

About Us

Texas Immigration Law Council (TxILC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted to protecting and promoting the rights of immigrants and refugees in Texas. The organization was formed to develop and implement bold strategies to significantly help immigrants access justice and to move forward practical immigration solutions.

About the TxILC Economic Justice Initiative

The “Economic Justice Initiative” (EJI) is a groundbreaking initiative by Texas Immigration Law Council, funded by a three-year grant from the Texas Access to Justice Foundation. This program aims to narrow legal service gaps for low-income immigrants across Texas by deploying around 30 fellows, including both attorneys and Community Justice Workers (CJWs), to provide civil legal services to noncitizens. In partnership with Equal Justice Works (EJW) and statewide service providers, the project will implement cutting-edge strategies to address a wide range of civil law challenges, such as employment, consumer rights, and housing. By fostering collaboration between legal professionals and community-based organizations, this initiative seeks to create sustainable improvements in immigrant access to justice throughout the state. The project not only provides immediate legal assistance but also tests new approaches to develop a more equitable and accessible legal landscape for immigrant communities in Texas.

About the Role

TxILC is hiring a second Managing Attorney to provide civil legal subject matter expertise and to co-lead host site management and substantive supervision of EJI Fellows. Functioning within a collaborative team of peers, this new Managing Attorney will work closely alongside the current Managing Attorney to ensure that all fellows have equitable access to supervision, mentorship, and resources. Additionally, the Managing Attorney will be expected to develop training resources that can be utilized for fellow onboarding purposes as well as Continuing Legal Education (CLE).

This role will also collaborate with the Director, Project Manager, other EJI team members, and consultants to ensure cohesive and responsive implementation of the initiative. The Managing Attorney should have an understanding of the community justice worker model and movement as an innovative approach to narrow the access to justice gap in Texas.
