Additional Background

Undocumented individuals who have lived in the U.S. for years have not received long overdue protections in the form of parole and Temporary Protected Status (TPS), despite President Biden having the authority to offer these protections to them. This includes just over 1 million spouses of U.S. citizens living in the U.S. as well as approximately 1.8 million people seeking asylum and long-term residents who could benefit from TPS.

President Biden should take action and offer Parole in Place for spouses of U.S. citizens and TPS for countries that meet the statutory requirements. In doing so, he would be giving much-needed safety and security to undocumented individuals who need it most. This would allow them to continue living, working, and contributing to our communities while also keeping countless families together.
